| An example of Georgina Hounsome's work. |
We had a guest speaker and illustrator, Georgina Hounsome, give us talk and insight as an illustrator. It was useful to hear Georgina's advice on aspects of working as an illustrator such as working with and getting in contact with agents and creating your portfolio.
I found looking through Georgina's sketchbooks fascinating as they are so far from any of my own sketchbooks I have kept. It was interesting to see how another illustrator developed their work, as well as looking through her sketches and roughs there would be a body of text to accompany these drawings. Jotting down notes and explaining what you're doing with words can be as useful as creating the image itself. Something Georgina said that stuck with me was if you felt like you were having a block or had hit a wall that she found taking a step back from your work and drawing something completely new was useful as an outlet.
